Can you visit Deoksugung in the evening?
Yes. Deoksugung's regular visiting hours extend into the evening throughout the year. A normal palace visit and the ticketed Seokjojeon at Night event follow different arrangements. Decide which experience you mean before searching for tickets. [1] [4]
For a flexible evening, plan around ordinary admission. If the special program is the reason for your visit, secure the correct reservation first and arrange dinner around that confirmed time. A sold-out event should not be the starting point for planning the rest of your evening.
Plan around the entrance cutoff
Regular hours are 09:00–21:00, with entry ending at 20:00. Monday is the usual closure day. If it falls on a public or substitute holiday, the palace opens and closes on the next non-holiday instead. All times here are local Korean time. [1]
Aim to arrive well before the cutoff so a delayed train or a slow meal does not decide the visit for you. Choose your departure time before making the rest of the evening more ambitious. Check the operator's notice for your date, especially around holidays.
Evening palace access does not mean every interior stays open. The regular Seokjojeon exhibition closes at 17:30, with its last guided tour at 16:30 and advance online reservations listed. Dondeokjeon and Jungmyeongjeon also close at 17:30. Treat an indoor exhibition visit as a separate daytime plan. [1]
Use the price for your visitor category
The standard individual palace fee for foreign visitors aged 19–64 is KRW 1,000. The official fee guide lists foreign visitors aged 18 or younger and 65 or older among those eligible for free regular admission. The art museum has separate ticketing. [2]
Keep your group's regular admission budget separate from any event booking. If you qualify for free entry, check what evidence to show before leaving your accommodation. Do not apply the regular palace age bands or concessions to a special program without reading its own conditions.
Seokjojeon at Night: autumn 2026 conditions
The program combines a guided interior visit, terrace refreshments and a musical performance. The autumn season runs September 9–October 18, 2026, Wednesday–Sunday, with sessions at 18:00, 18:40 and 19:15 lasting about 100 minutes. [5]
Booking stage checked September 12, 2026: the August 19–25 lottery has closed. General sales for remaining seats began September 2 at 14:00; the published cutoff is 10:00 on the event day, subject to seats remaining. Advance booking is required, with no walk-up sales. Follow the current booking route in the official event notice; an old lottery page is not evidence that a session is available. [4]
Check in by the Daehanmun ticket office at least 10 minutes before your session, with original ID matching the reservation. Palace entry is included after event check-in. Read the event's age, stairs/access, identification and cancellation conditions before paying. [4]
For English-speaking visitors: an English-language session and acceptance of overseas identification and cards have not been confirmed for this guide. Ask the organizer (1522-2295) before relying on the event. Until you have a suitable confirmed reservation, use the ordinary palace plan below. No seat availability or booking checkout was tested. Save the palace entrance, not just the station
Use City Hall Station (시청역), on subway lines 1 and 2, and follow signs toward Deoksugung and Daehanmun (대한문). Official pages give different exit-number guidance, so check the current station signs. The palace lists no parking facilities. [3] [4]

Keep the Korean place name and address together in your map app. If you need a route without stairs, check lifts and the palace entrance separately; the nearest numbered exit alone does not establish an accessible journey.
Choose one clear plan for the evening
For an ordinary evening visit, make Daehanmun entry your first stop, walk the grounds, then return toward City Hall for your onward journey. Choose dinner before or after the palace based on the 20:00 entry cutoff; arriving near that time leaves less of the evening for the grounds. Indoor exhibition access and the special event should not be assumed to be included.
