No. The new Hangang Bus online booking service is a group-reservation pilot, not a new individual ticket system. Seoul's announcement sets a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 passengers per departure. It applies to weekday departures from Magok and Jamsil piers. If you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with a small family, do not build your day around a group booking that you cannot use.
For an eligible school, company, institution or other organized group, the useful change is the chance to arrange a departure in advance rather than trying to collect enough queue tickets together at the pier. The main planning decisions are your group size, departure pier, travel date, payment and arrival time. The rules below were checked against Seoul Metropolitan Government and the operator on October 29, 2026.

What actually changed, and when?
Online reservations opened at 10 a.m. on October 19, 2026, for boarding from October 20. The operator's October 19 notice gives the pilot period as October 20 to December 31, 2026, and excludes weekends and public holidays. Its notice says any expansion in 2027 will be considered after the pilot. Treat those dates as the published pilot period, rather than a promise that the same arrangement will run indefinitely.

Seoul explains that the existing boarding arrangement uses numbered tickets issued at the pier on a first-come, first-served basis. A large group could therefore find it difficult to secure its outing in advance. The new reservation route addresses that problem. It does not turn every seat at every pier into an online reservation, and the announcement does not remove the separate arrangements for passengers without group bookings.

Check these conditions before choosing a sailing
| Decision | Published pilot rule | What it means for your plan |
|---|---|---|
| Party size | 10–30 passengers per departure | A solo traveler or small party cannot use this as an individual booking. |
| Departure point | Magok or Jamsil pier | Do not assume another pier offers the same group reservation. |
| Day | Weekdays, excluding public holidays | A Saturday or holiday outing needs a different plan. |
| Pilot period | October 20–December 31, 2026 | Check later notices before planning beyond December. |
| Arrival | At least 30 minutes before departure | Allow time to reach the pier and complete the boarding procedure. |
The limit is per departure. Seoul's release also sets a maximum of 30 reserved passengers per departure. That is a reservation limit, not a statement that a vessel has only 30 seats. A party larger than 30 should contact the operator about its needs rather than assume that several bookings will automatically keep everyone on the same sailing.
The notices describe organized groups, including businesses, schools and institutions. If your party is an informal gathering or has a special arrangement, confirm suitability with the operator before collecting money. Having ten people is an important threshold; it should not be treated as a guarantee that any proposed outing will be accepted.
Budget with the published fares, then check the payment screen
Seoul's group announcement lists advance payment at the standard fares: KRW 3,000 for an adult, KRW 1,800 for a teenager and KRW 1,100 for a child. The operator's fare page separately confirms these amounts and identifies children as ages 6–12 and teenagers as ages 13–18.

For a simple illustration, ten adults at the published adult fare total KRW 30,000. Eight adults and two teenagers total KRW 27,600: 8 × 3,000 plus 2 × 1,800. These examples assume one standard-fare journey for each passenger, with no additional discount. They are planning calculations, not a quote for a particular departure. Check the final amount and passenger categories on the booking screen before paying.
Do not assume that an ordinary transport-card benefit automatically carries across to an advance online group payment. The group announcement directs users to online prepayment, while the operator's general fare page also discusses transfer discounts. Those are different pieces of information. Confirm any discount you intend to use through the actual group reservation terms instead of subtracting it from the budget yourself.
Reserve the right pier and leave enough time to board
The official procedure starts with Naver Map or Naver Place. Search for the intended Magok or Jamsil Hangang Bus pier, select the date and departure, enter the passenger count and reservation details, complete payment, and confirm the booking. Seoul lists Naver Pay in its procedure table. Opening a pier listing or selecting a time is not the same as receiving a completed reservation.
Keep the confirmed pier, date, departure time and passenger details together so the group leader can check them before departure. Plan the journey to the pier itself, rather than timing arrival at a nearby subway station. Walking from a station, gathering a group and completing the on-site process all take time; the published requirement is to arrive at the designated pier at least 30 minutes before the boat leaves.

Seoul states that reservations and refunds are available until 11:59 p.m. on the day before boarding. For a Friday trip, that means the stated cut-off falls on Thursday night, not Friday morning. The operator's notice likewise describes a day-before deadline. Check the terms shown for your selected booking if your plans change; this published deadline should not be read as a promise of a same-day refund.

Questions that matter before you commit your afternoon
Can two people reserve ten places just to get an advance booking?
The published service is for a group of 10–30 passengers. Do not treat its minimum as a workaround for an individual outing. If you have fewer passengers, use the operator's current information for ordinary boarding and keep your day's schedule flexible.
Can I reserve from any pier or on a public holiday?
The published pilot covers Magok and Jamsil departures on eligible weekdays. The operator explicitly excludes weekends and public holidays. A route appearing on the broader network does not establish that its departure pier is part of this reservation pilot.
Does a reservation guarantee the service runs regardless of weather?
No itinerary should depend on that assumption. The operator publishes operating notices, including weather-related suspension and resumption announcements. Check its current service information before leaving and keep a land-transport alternative for any time-sensitive appointment after the river trip. A historical resumption notice does not guarantee conditions on your travel day.
When do dates become available, and is the return journey included?
Seoul says booking opening dates for each travel date will be announced separately on the reservation page. It does not give one universal advance-booking window. Check the date and route actually offered. Likewise, inspect your confirmed journey rather than assume that a return sailing is included because you booked an outbound departure.
